CAS(E) this Sketch! Hello and Have Faith

This is my second post today.  The Alley Way
Stamps blog hop is just a short scroll away!

It's time for a new sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch!  I predict lots and lots of people will play along because everybody love pennants and flags!

I went for a bright and cheerful "hello" simply because it was a good chance to use a variety of papers from a fun pad of paper!  This is a lot of patterns for me, but backed with all of that white - it still feels CAS.

I have two cards for you today.  I actually started in an entirely different direction and was quite happy with the result, then I realized that I had used the same soft patterns last week.  (Not that anybody but me would notice!)  I did want you to see this though, mainly because of this wonderful sentiment.

Know that He will

Be sure to play along this week - it's a great sketch and, obviously, you can go in lots of directions!

A CASual Red, White and Blue Dahlia

This is my second post today.

I have been wanting to play along with the Technique Tuesday Dahlia Fold challenge all month so since we are getting down to the last few days - I had to try something.  Technique Tuesday has a nice video tutorial on this technique.  They also later posted a slight variation that makes gorgeous flower buds - find it here.

I also had a pad of paper out full of reds and blues so also decided to play along with the CASual Friday red, white and blue challenge.

A Very Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday Ardyth!!

I'm sure all of you know Ardyth from MASKerade.  If you don't, you need to stop reading now and head over there.  Ardyth has an incredible card style.  She can take one stripe and one sentiment and do amazing things - if you don't believe - check it out.   Actually, she doesn't even need a stripe - just hand her a sentiment - see the bottom card here.

It is Ardyth's birthday today and the equally wonderful Darnell has organized a little card party.

My card is definitely inspired by Ardyth.  First, I had to use the "incredible".  She made this card on Saturday and I was so impressed that I had the stamp set by Monday.  Then I backed the letters with a solid color as she often does with letters and she also did with this amazing snowflake.

Thanks for all of your inspiration Ardyth and have a very happy birthday!

Papertrey Ink: A Floral Card that Isn't

Last weekend was the Papertrey Ink blog hop that included beautiful color schemes with inspiration photos of bouquets.  I thought I would buck the trend and ignore the flowers in the inspiration bouquets and go for a graphic card.  I recently got the Sketched Shapes and, with that order, I finally finished my entire collection of Papertrey buttons - I have them all!!  So I decided to use both on this card.

Unfortunately...I re-read the blog hop instructions and flowers were required!!  So I made and posted a different card last weekend - but I really like the first one that I made so here it is!  The card celebrating my complete button collection!

Thank You Banners

  • Stamps: Papertrey Ink Sketched Shapes, Signature Greetings
  • Paper: Papertrey Ink Melon Berry
  • Ink: Papertrey Ink Terracotta Tile, Orange Zest, Melong Berry, Harvest Gold, Simply Chartreuse

TAWS Time: A Sneak Peek of Bot Time

It's that wonderful time of the month when I get to show you sneak peeks of the new June sets at The Alley Way Stamps (TAWS).  Be sure to check out the link for what other designers did with this same set and for a chance to win this set!  Then head back to the TAWS blog on Tuesday and Wednesday for two other sets.  Finally, on Thursday, it's a blog hop to show you all the new sets!!

Today's set is just plain fun.  As cute as this guy is, I don't even think he's the cutest of the batch and I look forward to using the set often to show off all his friends!

Isn't he just "robotastic"???

This card uses the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.

And it is perfect for CAS on Sunday's Make it Masculine.

It's been a year since I redid my Copic color match charts to Stampin' Up and Papertrey Ink.  Since Stampin' Up has just redone their color collection and added new in-colors, it seemed like a good time to polish them both up.  Here they are - ready for your use!!  As always feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

These links will take you to Google Drive for the full file.  From there, simply click on "File" and use the dropdown to either print or download.  (They are also always available from my sidebar!)

Papertrey Blog Hop: Bouquet Builders

This is my THIRD post today!!!

Today is the monthly Papertrey Ink Blog Hop.  They have given us seven different gorgeous color schemes to choose from and challenged us to create a floral project.  On a whim, I decided to find the oldest floral Papertrey set that I had - it's called Green Thumb and comes from the second ever release in March of 2007.  (FYI - I have the very first set too - Paper Tray- and it has a little flower blossom in it, but I just couldn't build a bouquet with it!)  The butterfly and sentiment did come from slightly newer sets!

birthday wishes

I actually started out this challenge by challenging myself to colors that I find challenging.  Didja follow that?  One of the other color schemes includes a couple of colors that I just never use.  So I actually started out with this card.

Happy Birthday window

I don't dislike this card, but I so love bold colors on white (like the first card), that I just can't be happy with this one.

I am looking forward to being able to hop through all of the entries - bouquets of flowers - it's going to be gorgeous!

Operation Write Home Blog Hop

Today is a big day at Operation Write Home.  It's a huge blog hop full of cards to send to our armed forces.  The theme is "Thank You" and the idea is to make either blank cards for our heroes to use or to make AnyHero cards which are thank you cards for our heroes.

Dedicated Service and Sacrifice

Operation Write Home has a huge number of sketches for our use - you can find them weekly on their blog or they are all collected here.  For this card, I used a bonus sketch which you can find by clicking on the link and looking at the bonus sketch PDF.  (FYI: if you haven't browsed their site, they also have an amazing number of tutorial videos!)

OWH recently sent out their 2 millionth card!  They created a video commemorating the moment - I dare you to watch this without a box of kleenex nearby!

School Days!!

One of the things that I do love about cardmaking is the ability to match the card to the recipient...or, in this case, the school colors.

This first card is a CASE of myself with this card but I changed it up so that my son had thank you cards in his school colors for each of his teachers.

Thank You Teacher

It was particularly important for him to give our thank yous this year as his teachers have been truly amazing.  My poor guy had some bad experiences in his first few year at the local public high school, enough so that we brought him home to home school.  But he still wanted to have a school experience so he enrolled for a few classes at Lutheran High School.  It has been wonderful for him - in fact, he plans to attend full-time next year so he can graduate from that school.  The school makes sure that the teachers have time to care about the students.  One of the teachers mailed a personal card to my son congratulating him on his growth throughout the year - you just don't see personal cards from teachers very often.

My second card is a quick graduation card in the school colors of red, blue and gold.  (I have just realized how dull the picture is, but it's already off in the mail!)
Congrats Grad

CAS(E) this Sketch: Miss You Like Crazy

My card today is a little different for me.  It's still clean and simple, but I don't generally do soft colors, nor vintage paper and elements, but I actually have reasons for this card.

Miss You Like Crazy

First, it's for this week's CAS(E) this Sketch!

Second, on Mother's Day, I told the story of my mother - her passion for cardmaking, how she started our church card ministry and that I "miss her like crazy".  Thank you to all of you who have left such kind and caring comments.  But there was more to the story that I just didn't want to tell on Mother's Day.

Today is actually the anniversary of my mother's death.  She died of a heart attack.  What we did not know at the time is how different a woman's heart attack symptoms can be from a man's.  My mom actually had her heart attack on Mother's Day.  The only symptom was extremely severe back pain, so extreme that my South Dakota farm-stock, never-ever-see-a-doctor-when-you-can-just-tough-it-out mother was actually going to go to a doctor the next day.  But she woke up the next day feeling fine so never sought medical care.  My mom always overdid things and her back pain could have been related to carrying some heavy boxes the day before, so we didn't think a thing of it.  And that's what I want to say today.  Take a moment and read this article on heart attack symptoms in women.   The article says, "Even though heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, women often chalk up the symptoms to less life-threatening conditions like acid reflux, the flu or normal aging."  This article just briefly mentions back pain but we also don't know what else my mom was feeling - she just wasn't one to talk about her aches and pains.  Don't ignore symptoms, but also remember the key word is "extreme" so you don't have to worry every single day.  If you have any concerns, also check out Go Red for Women for risk factors, heart healthy foods, lifestyle changes and other actions you can take to increase awareness of and fight against heart disease in women. last reason....almost a year ago now I asked for advice as to how you were all using your cards.  Due to a very negative situation, my family chose to leave our church home of sixteen years, which sadly, also meant leaving the church cardmaking ministry.  Your advice poured in but it's taken me this long to move on from the emotions of the situation and, in the meantime, I have created two very large boxes of cards without a home.

So many of you mentioned Operation Write Home.  What an amazing group!! Their mission is:
Supporting our nation's armed forces by sending blank handmade greeting cards to write home on, as well as "AnyHero" cards of gratitude to encourage them.
OWH recently sent their 2 millionth card!  They created a video commemorating the moment - I dare you to watch this without a box of kleenex nearby.

They are a well-organized group that has the process down perfectly.  There are rules, but they all make sense - for example, would you have guessed that a single fleck of glitter that drops from a greeting card onto a soldier's uniform could be picked up by night-vision goggle and be dangerous - so NO glitter on the cards!!  I already have my OWH stamp for the back of my card.  And I have a large quantity of envelopes coming that OWH gets us at a discount.  There's also a huge Memorial weekend blog hop that you can check out here.  The OWH blogs are full of challenges and care sketches and thank you's from soldiers.

I'm joining in - and this "Miss You Like Crazy" card is my first official card!!

I know...too many words today and too few cards...thanks for sticking with me!

Fusion: Allow Faith to be Your Guide

This is my second post today.

I needed to quickly throw together a confirmation card this morning.  I had tucked some links to confirmation cards into my inspiration file and I planned to totally CASE something because I really didn't have a lot of time.  I just couldn't do it.  I used to totally CASE all the time (and I mean totally copy cards without any adjustment to make it my own.)  Don't get me wrong, I CASE ideas all the time - I'm great at putting a bunch of ideas together on a card - I'm not so great at coming up with my own creative ideas.  I was fairly proud of myself when I realized I don't copy anymore!

I like the FUSION challenge this week and it was perfect for my card.  Obviously I used the layout.  I was also inspired by the muted colors and twine in the inspiration photo.

  • Stamps: Paper Smooches Spiritual Sampler

The Alley Way Stamps: Miss You Lots

I think this guy is utterly charming...

CASology: One Day I'll Be Queen

I was thrilled a few weeks ago when I was asked to be a guest designer at CASology.  But I learned a hard lesson - always ask the theme for your guest week before you say "yes".  CASology is full of wonderful challenges - recently the Cue Word has been "bloom", "hexagon" and "care".  This week, however, is out of my comfort zone.  The cue word is....

It really threw me for a loop.  I don't have a stash of princess or queen stamps.  I do have one frog prince but he looked a little dated.  I thought about going diva with a crown - I know I have seen dozens of funny diva stamps, but I searched all over online and couldn't find anything.   I'm sure there are "royal" flowers.  I even toyed with using royal blue or royal purple.  (So now I have made up for my whining by giving you lots of ideas!!!)

I ended up going for a "royal" butterfly.  There are "queen" butterflies and "monarch" butterflies and even "viceroy" butterflies - all very royal!  Ancient Greeks considered butterflies royal because they were the souls of those who passed away.  I didn't put my butterfly in a "royal" setting but beautiful butterflies can sit on a weed and be spectacular!!

You're In My Thoughts

I did start out thinking kings and queens, and my first attempt went in an entirely different direction than butterflies.  Even though I am not entirely satisfied with this card (it leaves me flat and I just can't figure out why), I thought I would show you anyway. I used pennants - thinking castle decorations.  I stumbled upon the top of my sentiment panel by accident.  I had a few scraps of the gold cardstock left that matches my diagonal stripe.  I measured, cut and border punched - but I used my border punch on the wrong side.  I didn't have any more CS left - so I just used it on the top.  It looks like castle turret - I think it works!!

One Day I'll Be Queen

I really am looking forward to seeing what other "royal" ideas you come up with!!

My heart and prayers are with all of us who have experienced
such loss and devastation in the last few days.  I pray especially for
those parents whose children are still missing this morning.
May our Lord provide miracles today, strength in the days to
come and healing for the future.

WPlus9 Mood Board: Hey Sweetie

This week's WPlus9 Monday Mood Board is just full of bright colors and confetti and diagonal stripes and all kinds of festive things.  So I took out one of my what-was-I-thinking purchases - my neon inks.  I have to pull them out every so often because I did spend money on them and they deserve some use!!

Hey Sweetie

I have a question for you.  Do you see those striped straws(?) in the bottom left of the inspiration photo?  How are people using them?  I got a few in a monthly Simon Says Stamp kit and then I saw that Hobby Lobby is also carrying bags of them in the stamping section.  But I've never actually seen them used.  Does anybody have any ideas or links?

Catered Crop: Fabric of Friendship

Just a month ago, I was honored to be asked to be on the design team at Catered Crop.  I've posted a number of times and it's gone well...until this week...when the recipe is fabric.  I don't do fabric, I don't have any, and I've never sewn.  So I wandered into the fabric department at Hobby Lobby and found a fun package of 1/8 yard pieces of coordinating yellow fabric - I knew that I could do a sun.

I thought that I had read that metal dies (besides Sizzix) could cut fabric.  I was clearly dreaming because they don't - but they do put a mark on the fabric which allowed me to cut out my pieces.  However...I am also handicapped in that I am incapable of cutting a straight line.  So I decided to embrace the raggedy nature of my cutting by distressing my edges and ripping the fabric for my bow.  I'm hoping it all looks intentional vs. an act of desperation!!

Some Days are Better

I also decided to try a slightly simpler card also - I wanted to put the sunshiny fabric behind a die cut.  I like this card, but it really doesn't scream "fabric" - it could just as well be patterned paper.

Wishing You Sunshine

This card also uses the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.

Be sure to check out the other designers - there are some fabulous ideas!!  And Catered Crop also has a wonderful Pinterest board full of fabric ideas.  I would love to see some of your work so that I can be inspired to work with fabric again.
